Reliable ignition is absolutely imperative if today's electronically controlled spark ignition engines are to operate efficiently and without trouble. Ignition malfunction leads to misfiring and therefore not only to loss of power and increased fuel consumption, but also to a worsening of the exhaust-emission figures, in the most unfavorable cases, the catalytic converter can also be destroyed.

Reliable connections between the high-voltage ignition coil and the spark plug are critical if the ignition energy is to be transferred reliably.
